The incident is however "normal" in the Philippines, Jun Galang of the Philippine Astronomical, Geophysical and Astronomic Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Hailstorms are caused by thunderstorms, Galang said, noting that cumulonimbus clouds are made up of ice particles.

What is Hail Storm definition?
- Hail is a form of precipitation that falls from the sky as pellets of ice. The pellets can range in size from small pea-sized pellets, to hailstones as large as grapefruits.
